The Oasis film of Nicole McLaughlin has taught me one thing. Houdini. Started by our Technical Director, Valentin, he created a complicated setup for the volleyball in Houdini. 3 slabs of the volleyball were created & shaded. They were given accurate properties in Vellum for their stretch and stiffness; once we were satisfied with the result, we used a low-resolution to drive a very high poly simulation. Each time, whether it is the shoes or the bag, the same process applies; 3 slabs, duplicated and procedurally sewn together, all in one software. The technicalities of this film pushed me to learn how to use many different nodes in a software I barely knew at the time.
